The Executive Consultancy Service (ECS) is a management consulting practice. It specializes in strategic planning services and products.
Tom Yardley established ECS in 2003.
However, ECS really grew from a small unit that had functioned as an internal management consultancy at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In this form, it functioned for ten years prior to it becoming independent. RMIT is one of Australia’s largest universities, and it had a significant range of commercial activities as well as the very large teaching and research programs operating here in Australia and off shore.
ECS has helped senior managers with the top few decisions that their organisations needed to get right in order to prosper.
The work has been with businesses and non-profit organisations.
For more than twenty years, the principal of the ECS has been a management consultant in independent practice. Some typical projects include the introduction to, or improvement of strategic planning in organisations in these areas -
Information and communications technology (ICT) strategic planning and financing -
Collaborated with international accounting firm in provision of management development program for managing contractors and consultants.
Currently helping organizations with aspects of marketing, including web marketing, and e-business.
Identified savings of $2 million, while revenue from vulnerable Asian markets continued to rise above $60 million, in international marketing and client services division of a large multinational organization.
Reviewed and restructured many groups, including multimedia group that had commercially failed, turning around printing, and video production/multimedia businesses, under new contract management arrangements.
Reviewed business development proposals and business cases, and cost structures for many parts of the RMIT University, including mergers, restructures, establishment of research centres, etc.
Prepared materials for training managers in innovation management.
The ECS offers organizational review, management development, and training in management, in particular strategic planning, project management, organizational design, and can facilitate planning processes and develop management tools to help individuals and organizations improve performance.
Frameworks employed include Managerial Cybernetics, Viable System Modeling, and Organization Design using Stratified Systems Theory, Business Process Improvement using Salience-Worth Analysis, Corporate Governance, and Strategic Planning improvement using the approaches of John Argenti.
I am an associate of Argenti Systems Limited UK, developers and providers of The Argenti System of Strategic Planning. I co-authored the nonprofit version of the Argenti System of Strategic Planning.

Argenti Strategic Planning is a process which, for more than forty years, has been used by over 2000 companies and NPOs around the world. Many of them have since become world class performers.
One key lesson from all this experience is that the starting
point for a successful strategic plan is categorically not to announce
a Mission or Vision Statement. Instead your planning team must move carefully
through the ‘Argenti Purpose Sequence©’.

Another key lesson from the Argenti Strategic Planning experience is that, throughout the process, you must avoid being caught in the details. Ignoring this rule can derail your entire planning process. The Argenti Strategic Planning Process shows you how to concentrate like a laser on the ‘The Strategic Elephants’.
